EFPF Open Experimentation and Hackathon

To support the open experimentation on the EFPF platform, the EFPF project is organising a Hackathon, which is collocated with the CONASENSE symposium (brief introduction below). The hackathon is organised as a hybrid event targeted at researchers, students, SMEs and startups that are interested in validating concepts, experimental applications or in performing experiments in the domain of manufacturing. This event is part of the "European Connected Factory Platform, EFPF" Catalyzer Programme (https://www.efpf.org/), and the attendants will have the opportunity to enrol on the EFPF challenge domain of the EU-IoT Hackathon (https://www.hackathon.io/eu-iot-hackathon1) which takes place on the 27-28 June 2022 (hybrid, with a pole in Munich and a pole in Brazil). The Hackathon considers different types of projects: technical, skills (training) and also business projects.

The list of challenges to be addressed in the hackathon are:

  • Challenge 1: Semantic matchmaking for the support of environmental monitoring of the shop-floor. You will be using the open-source EFPF TSMatch gateway (https://docs.efpf.linksmart.eu/projects/factory-connectivity-smart-factory-tools/ds-tsmatch-gateway/) to improve the existing apps, or to improve the interconnection between TSMatch and the EFPF Data spine.

  • Challenge 2: Evaluate the EFPF SDK in developing digital smart manufacturing applications. You will be using the EFPF SDK studio to create applications. https://docs.efpf.linksmart.eu/projects/sdk-studio/

  • Challenge 3: Evaluate the usability of the Data Spine for the creation of composite applications. You will be testing the EFPF Data Spine (https://docs.efpf.linksmart.eu/projects/data-spine/ds-user-guide/) and its usability, proposing specific improvements.

  • Challenge 4: Analyze industrial data coming from EFPF partners and provide insights based on the EFPF analytics tools. You will be working with open-source Machine Learning Libraries and propose applications for the visualization and analysis of industrial data.

Registeration of projects can be done on the EU-IoT Hackathon (https://www.hackathon.io/eu-iot-hackathon1) and also contact with the different challenge coordinators can be established for better understanding of the EFPF tools.

The participants will present their results on June 28th 2022 , EU-IoT Hackathon, and the four best EFPF Challenge domain projects will be selected and will receive different prizes supported by EFPF. The best teams of the EFPF challenge domain will also be selected to run to the overall additional EU-IoT Hackathon Awards.

EFPF Awards: 600€ smart phone (1st prize). 300€ smart home kit (2nd prize). 200€ IoT starter kit (3rd prize). 100€ IoT starter kit (4th prize).

The CONASENSE2022 symposium is focused on 6G as a paradigm that can be addressed by working together in 4 different computational areas: communications; satellites and navigation; sensing; services. CONASENSE stands for Communication, Navigation, Sensing, and Services. It aims to foster the total integration of all these research fields for prosperous humanity based on the digital society. The symposium comprises:

  • Invited talks and keynote speeches by international experts from industry and academia

  • Technical tracks with multiple peer-reviewed papers focusing on the proposed CONASENSE topics

  • The co-located EU-IoT/EFPF Hackathon, with focus on Mobile Sustainable IoT solutions and jointly organised by fortiss and UnternehmerTUM Makerspace.

The CONASENSE2022 agenda integrates keynote speeches and invited talks with focus on novel 6G aspects; peer-reviewed scientific papers in 5 thematic areas:

  • Communications: Unified architectural communications involving ground to spaceborne infrastructures; quantum communications and their role and challenges in 6G; Machine-to-machine and device-to-device communication aspects; security aspects in 6G, including mitigation of attacks and architectural challenges; network architectures and protocols for 6G;

  • Navigation and Satellite Integration: AR/VR advanced navigation approaches, considering both indoor and outdoor scenarios; new navigation applications, e.g., navigation systems for visually impaired people; navigation based on wireless systems; the role of satellite systems and space communications in supporting future IoT systems; geolocalization services and challenges; Data verification, data curation aspects, data privacy aspects.

  • Sensing: Internet of Things and its integration in different vertical markets; Internet of Everything and AIoT; Interfacing to the real world, in particular tactile interfacing, user-centric, context-aware man-machine interfacing.

  • Services: The role of the Metaverse, AR/VR development towards 6G; Semantic technologies and their role in the development of a 6G unified architectural communications vision; ML application, in particular federated learning and decentralised learning approaches (e.g., swarm, hybrid federated learning approaches) required to support 6G services; new services and use-cases, e.g., emergency services, remote surgery, smart manufacturing, space exploration, underwater communications; New Edge-based services and the role of Edge computing

  • Sustainability and Greenness: methodological analysis and research focused on automated evaluation of sustainable solutions towards 6G; analysis of 6G business advantages, proposal of business models and green business frameworks, etc.

CONASENSE2022 is organized by @fortiss and CTIF, @Aarhus University with the support of several sponsors (Infineon, IBM, CSA EU-IoT, H2020 EFPF) and several promoters across Europe!
